Have you recently been for an eye test and been prescribed progressive glasses? Maybe you are unfamiliar with their use and why you may need them. If you have been to see an optemitrist and they have prescribed you to wear progressive glasses then there is no need to worry. Progressive glasses have plenty of benefits and you will quickly get used to wearing them.
What are progressive glasses and how do they work?
Progressive glasses are no-line multi focal eyeglass lenses that look exactly the same as single vision lenses. Put simply, progressive lenses will help you see at all distances with one pair of glasses. They start with your distance prescription (if you have one) at the top of the lens and increase as you move toward the bottom of the lens. You simply move your head position to allow you to focus through different areas of the lens.
They are perfect for nearsightedness and farsightedness. Due to them being progressive lenses it can sometimes be quite difficult to get comfortable with them, maybe even sometimes causing a slight dizziness, but if you try and wear them as often as you can for as long as you can then this will help you to adjust much more quickly.
Progressive lenses have three prescriptions in one pair of glasses. That allows you to do close-up work like reading a book, middle-distance work like checking out a website on a computer or long distance viewing such as driving. You are able to do all of these things without needing to change your glasses.
The benefits to wearing progressive glasses
You will only need one pair of glasses.
Some people find that a progressive lens is better than a single-vision lens because it allows them to see clearly at different distances without the need to carry a second pair of glasses
Anither benefit is tgat there is no bifocal line.Progressive lenses offer the benefits of a multifocal lens without a multifocal line. And since there’s a gradual shift in lens strength with a progressive lens, you don’t have to deal with any sudden changes in clarity, which are common with multifocal lines.
A third benefit is that you can get progressive glasses that are modern and youthful in appearance. Bifocal and trifocal eyeglasses are sometimes associated with old age and because of that they can be thought of as being a less modern look but now there are many different types of frames for you to choose from. It will be difficult to tell them apart from a single vision lens.
Progressive glasses are a great way of being able to have a clearer vision at all times, being able to go from long to short distance vision by just taking a glance up or down, depending on where your prescribed lens is fitted. You can leave the house without worrying about forgetting your reading glasses or driving glasses with being about be to do both with just one pair of glasses.
