Vitamin supplements aren’t just for adults. Kids can benefit from dietary supplements, too: they’re beneficial no matter how well-balanced your child’s diet is.
Every kid needs a daily dose of essential vitamins and minerals to ensure healthy growth and development. But, unfortunately, it’s estimated that 1 out of 3 children in America are deficient in one or more essential nutrients. This is especially true of picky eaters, who may turn up their noses at milk, fortified cereals, and even meat because they don’t like the texture or taste.

Vitamin A for Vision and Healthy Skin
This vitamin is important to developing your child’s teeth, bones, and soft tissue, particularly their corneas and other mucus membranes. In addition, it helps keep the eyes, skin, and respiratory system healthy. This is why mothers are often advised to take vitamin A if they’re breastfeeding their babies.
If your child isn’t getting enough Vitamin A through foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, and spinach (just to name a few), then you must supplement with this essential vitamin. The good news is that Vitamin A is usually tolerated well by most kids, so you won’t need to worry about any side effects.
DHA for Brain Development
DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that’s important for developing your child’s motor skills and brain function. This particular vitamin consists mostly of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which are crucial in helping with brain function.
It’s most commonly found in fish, but you can also get it through supplements. If your child doesn’t eat seafood regularly, it may be good to get supplements to ensure that they’re getting the right daily dose.
Vitamin D for Calcium Absorption and Stronger Bones
Kids need vitamin D for strong bones, nervous system function, and proper growth in teeth and nails. There are two types of Vitamin D: D2 and D3.
D3 is found in lots of foods, like cheese, eggs, and fortified milk. It can also be produced naturally when the skin comes in contact with sunlight. So if your child doesn’t get enough vitamin D through their diet, you might consider supplements to make up for it.
Calcium for Stronger Bones
Calcium isn’t just important to kids who are still growing. Even adults need the mineral since it helps build stronger bones and teeth, which can help prevent conditions like osteoporosis. However, if you don’t think your child is getting enough calcium through their diet, you might need to supplement.
Magnesium for Healthy Nails, Hair, and Teeth
Magnesium is another essential mineral that your child needs to grow properly. It helps support healthy bones, teeth, and nails, but it’s also important for neurological health. If your child doesn’t get enough magnesium through their diet, you should consider supplementing the mineral.
