1. Boiling /steaming:
The most common way of preparing rice is by steaming or boiling. During the process, the rice absorbs the water to become softer and fluffier. Basmati rice usually remains separate, but other forms of rice grains tend to merge. Rice is good to be consumed just after standard boiling or steaming. Some side dishes such as soups, veggies can be eaten with rice. Rice cooked this way is also used to create various varieties of rice foods with some unique ingredients added to rice. This type of rice is also used to make sushi. Rice is common everywhere globally and consumed by almost anyone, as the digesting ability of boiled/steamed rice is about 88% in children and adults.
2. Making rice with excess water:
We can cook rice with an excess amount of water. While cooking the rice, if you feel it’s almost cooked, the excess water can be drained and poured out. Then the rice is steamed until it’s completely cooked. The first step of cooking rice is to rinse the rice in water first and wash it once or twice. After cleaning, soak the rice in the water for some time. This process makes sure to get rid of certain proteins that are not so good for our health.
3. The optimum level of water:
While cooking rice in rice cookers or pots, we must make sure that we add the right water level to the rice. After cooking, the rice will absorb all the water that you added. There are some rice-/- water ratios to cook rice with optimum level water. For soft rice, we need to add 2 cups of water to one cup of rice, and for firmer rice, we need to add 1.5 cups of water to one cup of rice. Leave high flame until the water boils and then add the soaked raw rice to the boiling water. Now reduce the flame until the rice is fully cooked.
4. Rice porridge:
We can prepare rice porridge if extra water is added when the rice is cooked, which makes the rice grains become saturated and disintegrate, resulting in softer rice. This dish is a common breakfast for many and a meal for sick people to digest easily.
5. Stir fry with oil:
To make dishes like Mexican rice/Spanish rice, risotto, saffron rice, pilaf, Biryani, and the like, stir the uncooked rice with oil and other ingredients like meat, vegetables, or seafood boiling the rice with water. This is one of the most commonly liked ways of making rice around the world.
6. Compressed rice:
This is also one of the methods of cooking rice by boiling/ steaming. Compressed rice is a well-known dish in Malaysia and Indonesia. Raw rice is partially cooked and then is packed within organic leaf pouches. The rice turns into a solid mass after it is cooked. Then, the leaf pouches are taken out, cut into several pieces, and served with any side dishes, soups, and sauces. Using fresh pouches like leaves is recommended over plastic bags, as plastic bags can cause severe health problems.
